Common Council
The Common Council is the legislative branch of city government. The Council's primary functions are to pass the laws (ordinances) of the city and to approve the budgets and spending of money collected by the city.
The Council consists of seven members. Two are elected across the city (at large) and five are elected specific to certain areas of the city (districts). Council meetings are held on the Tuesdays that follow the second and fourth Monday of each month at 7:00pm in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 16 S. 10th Street. Broadcasts of the Council meetings are scheduled to be shown on Channel 19, HomeTown Television, on Thursdays of the same week as the Council meetings. Scheduled broadcast times are on Thursdays at 12:00pm, 4:00pm, and 8:00pm, In addition, Council members meet as three person subcommittees to review the services and functions of our city and other issues.
