Little Chicago Road Pedestrian Bridge

Little Chicago Road

PROJECT: Little Chicago Road Pedestrian Bridge

TIMELINE: Construction will begin mid-April 2024.

  • Bid April 2023
  • 2023 - Utility relocation (power, cable, communication)
  • 2024 - Bridge widening for trail and rehabilitation of existing structure. Bridge rehabilitation must be completed in phases due to multiple utilities attached to the bridge to cross Morse Reservoir that must remain in service.
    • Bridge construction Phasing: Bridge will be widening to the east, utilities will temporary shifted to the east side of the bridge while the existing structure is rehabilitated. Once original bridge has been rehabilitated, then utilities will be moved back.

  • Road Closures/Restrictions in 2024:
    • Temporary signals will be placed at both ends of the bridge in mid-April, and the roadway will be limited to one lane of traffic to allow bridge and causeway widening. This restriction will be in place until May 14, 2024.
    • A full closure of the roadway will begin May 14, 2024 and work is expected to be completed by Thanksgiving 2024.
  • Boat Access Restrictions in 2024:
    • The waterway under the bridge will have intermittent closures throughout the project.
    • The contractor will allow intermittent openings depending on the construction activities being performed at that time.
    • The waterway will be open for Memorial Day weekend, Independence Day weekend and Labor Day weekend.
